Fall Training Conference Report - 11/18/2017

NORTH CONWAY, New Hampshire — Weston Secretary Bob Uzenoff joined the Kiwanis New England and Bermuda District Fall Training Conference in North Conway, New Hampshire this weekend. Bob spotted other leaders from Division 20 including Past International Trustee Steve Hill, Past Lieutenant Governor and Danbury Secretary Foster Crawford, Danbury Past President Linda Thomas, and Wilton's new  Secretary Marty Clancy. The North Conway Hotel is a beautiful hotel in a huge a pretty-this-time-of-year shopping outlet area, Settlers Green. A dusting of about an inch of snow was everywhere. The Kiwanis Club of Weston officially welcomed  Katherine McConnaughey, David McConnaughey, and Rone Baldwin to the membership at their inductions at its breakfast meeting Saturday, November 4, 2017.

Jim McMorris Elected Director - 11/04/2017

Members elected Jim McMorris to the position of director of the club board at a special election at the regular breakfast meeting Saturday, November 4, 2017. The board nominated Jim at it's October 21 monthly meeting to fill the unexpired term held by Past President Fred Schneider until his death September 20. Jim's term will end September 30, 2019.

Jim is chair of the Technical Assistance Committee with members William McMorris and Dan Lerner.


Members Read Aloud to Elementary Students - 10/19/2017

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Kiwanis Club of Weston members helped elementary school children gain a love of reading by participating in the School Volunteer Association of Bridgeport Read Aloud Day. Joining Past President Rick Amill, who organized the club's participation in this important service, were Barbara Gross, Past President John Babyak, John Richard, Fernando Murillo, and Reed Ameden at Madison Elementary School.  Jackie Troxell Jr. enjoyed reading to Pre-K student at Jettie S. Tisdale Elementary. Rick commended all after their service on a great job.

Weston Kiwanis Inducts Eric and Andy Bell - 10/14/2017

Past President Dan Lerner inducted Eric and Andy Bell to membership at the club meeting last Saturday, October 14, 2017. Standing with Eric and Andy were their sponsor and neighbor Jane Young-Anglim and Jim McMorris, representing recently deceased co-sponsor Past President Fred Schneider. Eric, wife Tracy, and son Andy were admitted to membership at the club board meeting September 23. Tracy was not able to be present Saturday. Eric, a former member, with children now past secondary school, has a life balance that allows him to return to active participation in the club after an 11-year absence. Wasting no time in contributing again,...

Kiwanis Installs Leadership Team for 2017/2018 - 09/30/2017

Past Lieutenant Governor Reg W. Bowden discharged the 2016/2017 members completing board service this year and installed members joining the board as well as club officers for 2017/2018 at the club's breakfast meeting this morning.

New officers were installed serving a one-year term expiring October 2018. Roy A. Marsh will e president, with Glenn C. Van Deusen becoming the immediate past president. Dr. J. Thomas Failla is president-elect. Past President Robert A. Uzenoff returns as secretary. Namuk Cho is the new treasurer, succeeding H. Edward Michl who was treasurer for 11 years. Newly joining the board for two-year terms are Diana B. Heisinger and Harold S. Shupack.

Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Management Course a Success - 09/23/2017

NORWALK, Conn. — Emergency medical personnel from Darien, Milford, New Canaan, Norwalk, Redding, Stratford, Weston, Westport and Wilton attended the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Management Course at Norwalk Hospital on Saturday, September 23, 2017. The nationally accredited continuing medical education (CME) program was underwritten by the Kiwanis Club of Weston with produced with the cooperation of the Connecticut Office of Emergency Medical Services Southwest Connecticut EMS Council (Region 1) and with additional support of Norwalk Hospital and also approved for CME credit for EMS instructors in Connecticut.

Fred Schneider, Mr. Kiwanis Club of Weston - 09/20/2017

Past President Frederick W. Schneider (Fred) passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 after a brief stay at Norwalk Hospital.  In his 22 years as a Kiwanis, Fred served the club in countless ways. Fred was president for our 2003/2004 year. After his presidency, Fred served eight years as secretary and then the last three years as Assistant Secretary. Fred most recently was both Assistant Secretary and Interclub Chair.

Beloved by members and others alike as Mr. Kiwanis Club of Weston. Fred and his wife Shirley, also a Kiwanian, generously opened their lovely home to members for 18  years for our annual end-of-summer picnic and also at Christmas. Fred is survived...

Kiwanis Room at Ronald McDonald House a Reality - 09/13/2017

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The new Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital was dedicated Wednesday, September 13, 2017. The new house was made possible in part by a grant from the Division 20 Kiwanis clubs of Bridgeport, Fairfield, Norwalk, Weston and Wilton (after whom the Kiwanis Room (308)) was named, and the Kiwanis Club of Darien.

Kiwanis Playground at Cesar A. Batalla School Dedicated - 08/26/2017

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Children of Connecticut's largest grade school, and one without a playground for younger students, cut a ribbon today opening the Kiwanis Playground at Cesar A. Batalla School, a project conceived of and driven to completion by the Kiwanis Club of Weston with additional financial support from the Kiwanis Clubs of Norwalk and Bridgeport and other generous benefactors. Weston's Past President Dawn Egan led fund-raising, joined by Past President and Reservoir Run organizer Don Gary, and Reservoir Run organizer Phyllis Gary in the design, contracting, and oversight of construction.
