The Kiwanis Club of Weston has conferred its annual Youth Service Award to two distinguished high school students. The qualifications for this award are a youth who has recently made a significant contribution to our community or to its sense of civility; someone who has demonstrated exemplary behavior, attitude and values consistent with those consistent with Kiwanis International and a young person whose overall character and involvement suggest leadership potential.

This year the Kiwanis Youth Service Awards were conferred to two Juniors at the Weston High School.  The recipients,  Brian Babyak and Rebecca Marks, have both distingushed themselves for their work in the Community.

Brian's accomplishments include having worked with the Aspetuck Land Trust where he planned, designed, and built information boards and kiosks as well as served as a trail steward.  He has also worked with the Harwich Conservation Trust in Cape Cod and has had a long-time commitment to Eagle Scouts.   Brian has been an active youth executive board member for the CT Yankee Council.  In addition, Brian has participated in many Kiwanis and High School Clubs.  He is the founder of the Weston High School Outing Club, an active Key Club member, a participant in the Leadership Forum and a Peer Program mentor.  Brian is an honor student and a Wind Ensemble Participant.

Rebecca Marks has distingushed herself through her work with Weston Youth Services and their development of a high school stress reduction program, her involvement at the Yale School of Medicine on PTSD research studies, her community outreach with La Loma Luz Hospital in Belize, as well as volunteer missions at Yale-New Haven Hospital.   Rebecca takes on many local community service projects with organizations such as Circle of Friends, the High School Prom Committee, Play for a Cause Club and as an ongoing Peer Tutor.  Rebecca is also an honor student, a member of the Mock Trial State Finals and a certified wilderness first responder & lifeguard.
