Kiwanis Members Approve 2017/2018 Philanthropy Budget - 01/20/2018

Weston Kiwanians approved philanthropy giving of $53,953 for the current fiscal year ending September 30. Most of the giving will go to the Connecticut Food Bank for the Kids BackPack program to provide food for needy children on weekends during the school year. Other beneficiaries are the Kiwanis Playground at Cesar A. Batalla SchoolWeston High School athletic programs, Special Olympics Connecticut, dinners for Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut and Gillespie Center and Hoskins’ Place, single men's and single women’s shelter in Westport, and Weston Social Services holiday 2017 gift cards.

Kiwanis Continues Special Olympics Support - 01/13/2018

Kiwanis is supporting Special Olympics Connecticut (SOCT) again, this year through a cash donation and at the southern time trials on Saturday, May 12, 2018.  The Kiwanis Club of Weston will supply the staffing of thirty or so time slots for the tennis venue at the time trials being hosted by Weston High School. The cash donation has been made possible by a gift of a member who wishes to remain anonymous.

Kiwanians - Volunteer Here to Treat Veterans to Super Bowl LII Party - 01/12/2018

Kiwanians again will provide food and set up for a Super Bowl party at Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport. Originated and coordinated by  Jane Young-Anglim and co-chaired this year by Barbara Gross, this annual event also draws support from Kiwanis in Bridgeport led by Vinny Bonazzo  and this year Norwalk, through Missy Giandurco. Wow! Weston outdid itself this year. The Weston Department of Social Services received so many wonderful donations for the December Holiday Giving Program that we were able to provide extra gift cards and food baskets to all our residents struggling with financial difficulties.

We wish to thank the many individual and community donors who generously gave their time, energy, food and gifts cards. Kiwanians Support First Night Westport/Weston - 12/31/2017

Ushering in 2018 while supporting a child-friendly an alcohol-free First Night Westport/Westonwere Past presidents Rick Amill and Woody Bliss, Martha Diamant, Dan and Sharon Gilbert, Past President Tom and Patty Glass, and Past Presidents Harry Spencer and Bob Uzenoff. Members concluded their service and in what has become a tradition. regrouped at the Sherwood Diner for dinner.


Kiwanians Enjoy Best-Ever Holiday Party - 12/16/2017

Weston Kiwanians gathered for our holiday party this morning in the parish hall of our perennial host, Norfield Congregational Church. 47 members and 63 guests including Lieutenant Governor Paula Conte for a total of 110 adults and children filled the hall and a huge Toys for Tots collection box with unwrapped toys. 

Members Reverend Bernand Wilson spoke of the meaning of Christmas and Judge Lisa Wexler spoke of the meaning of Hanukkah. Chris Coogan and the Good News Gospel Choir treated the crowd to holiday favorites and some tunes new to us, with opportunities for singing along, made possible by a generous gift by David Weber in honor of members Fred and Shirley Schneider who passed away...

Fall Training Conference Report - 11/18/2017

NORTH CONWAY, New Hampshire — Weston Secretary Bob Uzenoff joined the Kiwanis New England and Bermuda District Fall Training Conference in North Conway, New Hampshire this weekend. Bob spotted other leaders from Division 20 including Past International Trustee Steve Hill, Past Lieutenant Governor and Danbury Secretary Foster Crawford, Danbury Past President Linda Thomas, and Wilton's new  Secretary Marty Clancy. The North Conway Hotel is a beautiful hotel in a huge a pretty-this-time-of-year shopping outlet area, Settlers Green. A dusting of about an inch of snow was everywhere. Jim McMorris Elected Director - 11/04/2017

Members elected Jim McMorris to the position of director of the club board at a special election at the regular breakfast meeting Saturday, November 4, 2017. The board nominated Jim at it's October 21 monthly meeting to fill the unexpired term held by Past President Fred Schneider until his death September 20. Jim's term will end September 30, 2019.

Jim is chair of the Technical Assistance Committee with members William McMorris and Dan Lerner.


Members Read Aloud to Elementary Students - 10/19/2017

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Kiwanis Club of Weston members helped elementary school children gain a love of reading by participating in the School Volunteer Association of Bridgeport Read Aloud Day. Joining Past President Rick Amill, who organized the club's participation in this important service, were Barbara Gross, Past President John Babyak, John Richard, Fernando Murillo, and Reed Ameden at Madison Elementary School.  Jackie Troxell Jr. enjoyed reading to Pre-K student at Jettie S. Tisdale Elementary. Rick commended all after their service on a great job.
