Weston Kiwanis and the Weston High School Awards Program:
Weston Kiwanis has a long history of participating in Weston High School's awards program. One of the first responsibilities of the Weston Kiwanis Foundation was to assume from the Kiwanis Club of Weston the duties of administering the awards programs and assuring the club-approved program had an endowment to meet financial requirements of the annual awards.
The current program awards five students in specified categories. One faculty committee selects candidates for the awards, and a second committee does the ranking and selection of the award winners based upon the established criteria. This assures objectivity in the process. In most recent years, the combined value of the five awards makes Kiwanis one of the top contributors to the awards programs. All high school students are eligible – not just seniors. The five awards are:
Service and Leadership Awards ($1,000 U.S. savings bond for each of two awards)
These are the original “legacy” awards started by the club in 1976.
These two awards recognize students for their outstanding service and leadership to the community.
Superintendent’s Scholarship Award ($2,000 U.S. savings bond)
Created by Weston Kiwanis in memory of Dr. Janet Shaner and her commitment to education in 2001.
The award recognizes a student who intends to major in a field of education and/or enjoys working with children.
Dave Brown Memorial Award ($1,000 U.S. savings bond)

· Positive role model who demonstrates respect, loyalty, and sportsmanship.
· School community member who has an exemplary record of service on behalf of others
Diane Mary Huston Schultz Memorial Award ($1,000 U.S. savings bond)
